Pomona King of the Mountain Festival

Sunday 28th July, 2013

7am – 5pm

Watch all the action live on the Big Screen at this year’s
Pomona King of the Mountain Festival 2013

Bendigo International Mountain Challenge spectators are able to witness live footage of athletes from around the globe take on the most grueling and historic mountain race in the country. This year’s ‘Big Screen’ is made possible by the generous support of Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Bendigo Bank.

It all began in 1959 when a local railway porter ran to the top of Mt. Cooroora in under one hour. In 1979 the Cooroy-Pomona Lions Club formed the King of the Mountain Committee to revive and make the race an annual event, held on the fourth Sunday of July each year. Today, 34 years on, the festival is now an internationally recognised sports event on the Sunshine Coast Calendar, with over 12,000 people attending to watch the gruelling mountain challenge being completed in less than 30 minutes.

Enjoy all the fun of a country fair, with many activities, competitions, amusement park rides and events for all the family. Attractions of the day include the Becker Helicopters rides over the mountain and surrounding countryside and the ‘Antiques and Collectibles Fair’.

The day climaxes at 3.00pm when runners from around the world try to conquer the most gruelling 4.5km mountain race in the country. Who will be the next King of the Mountain in the Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge?
